So helpful to read your words today. I’ll stay in the fray. My life is not a puzzle for me to master. And for that matter the lives of others aren’t mine to put in order either. Just for today may my mind be easy.
Polly, I totally agree with what you've written, but do you have any suggestions about dealing with a workplace in which your managers treat everything as a problem that needs to be solved?
This is exactly what I needed to hear/read today. I love how you explained that we turn our discomfort into puzzles so it would just become a problem you can solve your way out of it. I do that all the time. Beautiful post it really spoke to me 🫶🏼
I know you didn't write thist just for me, but it felt like it. So thank you. I printed a little "stay in it" sticker for my laptop.
My favorite lines --> You don’t need a factory to save you from darkness. You don’t need to tell stories about why this darkness is here or what you need to do about it. You don’t require strategies.
I noticed this pattern in myself, taking people, activities, ideas, I love and telling myself I don’t care that much, it’s not a big deal, it will come and go and it doesn’t really matter. Maybe this assuages some anticipatory dread in the in between, uncertain moments but it also just feels shitty and sets up this ongoing conflict with what I love. Outside of fleeting moments of connection, I am in a state of doubting and problem solving. I’m just copping on this pattern at 45. Putting the Stay In It post it above my desk and boarding up the factory …or at least cutting way back on production. Thank you, as always, I highlighted basically all of it and pinned to top of my Notes.

Oof, I needed this today/month/year. "Tolerate the uncertainty."
